The VAXD changes the metabolism of the disc by making the disc that is typical "anaerobic" to "aerobic" up to 2 hours after treatment.This oxygenates and hydrates the disc and creates a  healing effect.
 
The VAXD also acts like a vacuum and creates a negative pressure inside the disc sucking the nucleus pulposis back to the center of the disc.
 
Anions cross the disc barrier. Drugs are negatively charged (cations) which usually do not cross the disc barrier
